Social

The social aspect is another pillar of the Moving Hearts Association, as it focuses on generating resources to improve living conditions while creating a more equitable environment.

SCHOOL DINING HALL

Teachers report that many children go to school on empty stomachs, which is an indicative sign of the high level of malnutrition in the area.

The Moving Hearts Association, sensitive to this urgent social need, took on the challenge of building a school cafeteria next to the school complex. Thanks to this initiative and the funding from Manos Unidas, this infrastructure is now almost a reality. In fact, it will be operational for the next school year.

GENDER EQUALITY

Gender inequality in the Cahala neighborhood of Malanje, as in many other communities in Angola and around the world, manifests itself in diverse ways and affects women and girls in multiple aspects of their lives. Below are some of the main factors and consequences of this inequality in the community: access to education and health services, employment inequality, gender-based violence, cultural norms, etc.

The Moving Hearts Association has gender equality as one of its fundamental objectives. To achieve this, it has undertaken various lines of work:

  • Education: offering training and education at the School Complex.

  • Healthcare: Primary care, pediatrics and nursing services will be available in the near future.

  • Social:

-The Mercedarian Sisters' Home was created to take in orphaned girls in situations of extreme vulnerability.

-offering women's participation and leadership in community committees.

-empowering women.

  • Economy

- Vocational training through various workshops.

- reducing their working days in the fields.

OPENING OF WELLS IN VILLAGES

The community of Siete Sobas, a rural area near the city of Malanje, had to travel about eight kilometers to obtain drinking water and water for hygiene. The opening of the well in this community has undoubtedly been a great benefit to its development.

VOLUNTEER HOUSE

On his first trips to Malanje, Paco Soto aimed to understand and analyze the circumstances surrounding the area. Among his initial initiatives was the construction of the Volunteer House next to the Mercedarian Sisters' Home, intended to provide accommodation for all volunteers who wished to visit and collaborate on the Association's future projects. In fact, to date, more than twenty volunteers have already stayed there.

CHAPELS

Since 2014, four chapels have been built in rural villages. They are true centers for gathering and welcoming, for festive and religious celebrations, and even as village schools for adults and children.

Most of them have been built with external funding.
